HEALTH, EDUCATION & LITERACY PROGRAM (HELP):
Created in 2001, HELP offers activities and materials to parents to aid in improving the health of their families.

While waiting to see the pediatrician, the HELP program teaches parents how to decode important information such as: prescription labels, dosing instructions and ways to best communicate with medical staff.

The HELP Program has designed plain language and bilingual materials to use with activities.

Partial funding for the salary of the Program Director for HELP is provided by the Auxiliary. And in 2008 the Auxiliary also provided partial funding for the production of a video to be used in HELP staff training.

INTERPRETER SERVICES/PATIENT NAVIGATORS
Auxiliary funds the stipends for Interpreters, fluent in more than 20 languages, who communicate with hospital patients. Staffed with professionals, the program also ensures a patient's privacy under current HIPAA regulations. The Interpreters Program is indispensable in a hospital that serves such a diverse, multi-cultural population.

In conjunction with the Interpreter’s Program, the Auxiliary funds Patient Navigators, who assist patients in navigating through the many different departments and areas of the hospital. These individuals often interpret as well as navigate.

VOCATIONAL REHABILITATION - WORK DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
Emotional well-being is just as important as physical health. Using Auxiliary funds, the humane Work Development Program at Bellevue, provides a work experience within the hospital for recovering psychiatric and addicted patients, resulting in rebuilding their confidence and self-esteem and, at the same time, supplying additional help in understaffed areas.
